South Ossetia, officially the Republic of South Ossetia–the State of Alania, is a partially recognized breakaway state in the South Caucasus, located within the internationally recognized borders of Georgia. Following a 1991–1992 war, it separated from Georgia, which, along with most of the international community, considers it occupied territory. Its capital is Tskhinvali, with Russian and Ossetian as official languages.
